Chapter 8 - Planned for God's Pleasure

Here is the important message of this chapter...anything you do that brings pleasure to God is an act of worship. Worship is far more than music, worship is a lifestyle.

As a singer and "worship leader" myself, we can't exclude parts of our church service as though the music is the only "worship" segment of the service. Every part of a church service is an act of worship: praying, Scripture reading, singing, communion, giving and the sermon. I know we all know this but the contemporary church has lost some of it's reverent traditions over the last couple decades. I think worship has been somewhat characterized to a segment in church. In the Bible, the Psalms talk about "worshipping him continually." There you go!

So, as the PDL talks about pleasure here are some points to ponder:

1. Bringing pleasure to God is called "worship"

2. "Worship" is far more than music

3. "Worship" is not for your benefit

Every activity can be transformed into an act of "worship" when we do it for the praise, glory and pleasure of God. Let's try to live our lives as a lifestyle of worship for Jesus everyday. Some days will be harder than others ... but that is true "worship." Can I get an Amen from anyone out there?

Amen!

What I had never given thought to was that the things we do "just because" are considered worship as well. Things like donating, volunteering, washing your dishes, sweeping your neighbors sidewalk, or even rubbing your husbands back after a hard days work are acts of worship when they are done for His praise, glory, and pleasure.

My favorite sentence from this chapter is do everything 'as if you were doing it for Jesus'- those are very good words to live by!
